Abstract

We have developed a novel structure of the contact type image sensor array using amorphous silicon photoconductors (PCs) and TFTs (Thin Film Transistors). The novel device, namely "PC array" 2D image sensor, has an aperture ratio of ∼ 18 % and a fill factor of 18.4 % in which each pixel consists of a switching TFT, a PC and a self-capacitor of the PC. A small image sensor having 260 × 256 pixels with a 100 mm pixel pitch has been developed. The image sensor has a low noise performance with a dynamic range of 44 dB.
