Coupling coefficient calculaltion of laterally coupled distributed feedback laser structure with metal surface gratings

Abstract

We calculated the coupling coefficient of laterally coupled distributed feedback (LCDFB) laser structure with metal surface gratings using both coupled mode theory and beam propagation method. The coupling coefficient of a 3 J.UIl wide LC-DFB laser with 3rd order gratings fabricated by holographic lithographl was estimated as approximately 7.9 cm-1. Coupling coefficient dependence on structural parameters was also investigated.
