EC law on aircraft noise: recent developments

The article outlines the four EC Directives (1979, 1983, 1989 and 1992) which are directly aimed at regulating aircraft noise within the EC. The authors identify the International Civil Aviation Convention 1944, as amended by Annex 16, as one of the rationales for the introduction of EC Directives on aircraft noise as well as the primary source for the standards set. The article also briefly discusses two key exemptions to the Directive as well as the general implementation and enforcement of the Directives within the member states. -A.Jordan
