Abstract
A 2D/3D switchable display using a trapezoidal light-extraction (TLE) film, which can be attached to the backside of an LCD panel on the 3D light-guide plate (LGP), was designed and fabricated. The 3D image quality was maintained by a tightly controlled, uniform gap between the LCD panel and the 3D LGP. By applying two types of TLE films, 18.4- and 10.1-inch prototypes were constructed. Eye-tracking-based light-field 3D and 2D display images without interference artifacts between both modes were demonstrated.
