Abstract

Introduction of a fluorinated alkyl group on the imidazolium ring was found to significantly improve the thermal stability and the conductivity of the zwitterionic compounds. Imidazolium-based zwitterionic compounds bearing a fluorinated alkyl group and a sulfonate group were synthesized and tested for there conductivities for use as proton exchange membranes of fuel cell.
