Abstract
In this paper we report on the improvement of the photoluminescence (PL) properties of poly(p-pheneylene vinylene)s (PPVs) by means of copolymerization. In this study poly(1-methoxy-4-ethylhexyloxy-2,5-phenylenevinylene) (MEH-PPV) was copolymerized with other PPV series materials having side groups with different steric requirements. We observed an improvement in the photoluminescence properties of PPV-based materials when MEH-PPV was copolymerized with poly(1-methoxy-4-cyclohexylethyloxy-2,5-phenylenevinylene) (MCHE-PPV). A 1:1 copolymer of MEH-PPV and MCHE-PPV exhibited an optimum PL intensity in this series of copolymers.
