Novel patterned LC polymer retarders for prevention of wavelength dispersion

Abstract

We have prepared a novel patterned retarder made from liquid crystalline polymer by sequential area-selective UV irradiation of the reactive liquid crystal (LC) monomers. By controlling the photo-polymerization condition, we obtained the patterned retarder with three sections optimized to retard red, green, and blue. The retarder also had a wide allowable wavelength range and high thermal stability.
