Observation of transverse scar modes in a quadrupole-shape microcavity

Abstract

We have investigated complete scar mode structures of a quadrupole-shape microcavity made of liquid jet both theoretically and experimentally. We observed five different transverse scar modes with different Q factors but with surprisingly similar emission directionality due to the presence of very low-Q scar modes in the vicinity of the observed high-Q scar modes in phase space.
