Abstract

Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) is a widely researched technology due to its potential to become a cost-effective and energy-efficient next-generation display. Active matrix OLEDs (AMOLEDs) have exceptional display merits for instance high-resolution, excellent contrast ratio, good image quality, and low power consumption. This chapter discusses the details of current OLED manufacturing process for mobile display application including top-emission micro-cavity device, fine metal mask (FMM) technology for RGB patterning, and encapsulation technologies for OLED displays. OLED manufacturing requires precise process control, which is critical to make a high-resolution RGB color pattern. The chapter illustrates an OLED manufacturing process on glass as well as on the flexible substrates for mobile display application. For the manufacturing of rigid top-emission OLEDs (TEOLED) displays, frit sealing encapsulation is an effective approach to prevent organic materials from the penetration of oxygen and water vapor.
