Practical Survey on Deploying and Troubleshooting O-RAN SMO Systems: Case Study and Lessons Learned

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceeding › Conference contribution › peer-review

Abstract

This paper presents a systematic examination of the concepts and architecture of Open Radio Access Network (Open RAN), with a comprehensive analysis of the failure factors and corresponding solutions encountered during the practical deployment of O-RAN Service Management and Orchestration (SMO), its core management platform. Through the systematic identification of recurring errors that emerged during OSC SMO implementation in Docker and Helm environments, this study conducts an in-depth analysis of Pod architecture to propose effective mitigation strategies for Helm dependency conflicts, PVC binding failures, and authentication errors. The research contributes a practical operational model for real-world O-RAN SMO deployment and establishes a technical foundation for constructing automated operational frameworks.
