Abstract

A model of new product development (NPD) is developed to analyze certain project management characteristics that are helpful in the development and survival of new products in the market. The model highlights project management dimensions like project management style, project manger skills, process proficiency and product survival. It is observed that project can be best lead by early support from senior management and participation of managers with strong technical, marketing and managerial skills. It is pointed out that project management dimensions promote cross-functional integration and planning which plays an important role in the survival of new product.
