The Kac formula for the N = 1 and the N = 2 super-conformal algebras

Abstract

The method of Thorn which uses the operator formalism of string theories is generalized to calculate the Kac formula for the N = 1 and N = 2 super-conformal algebras. The same formula as Kac is obtained for the N = 1 case and for the N = 2 case a new result is found.
